So, you may or may not have noticed recently that my blog posts have been a bit sparse. I’m totally aware of this myself. In the past I have told myself I NEED to post at least 2 blog posts a week. Otherwise, people will get disinterested and won’t bother reading my blog any more. After only starting my blog in October 2016, I’m trying so hard to keep the momentum up and make this blog a success. But sometimes this can be hard. After all, I have a very busy, full on full-time job that isn’t just 9-5, 5 days a week, it’s so much more than that. Especially of late, when I’ve had a lot going on and plenty of commitments at work. Not only that, I’ve had a lot of different things happen in my personal life recently that I’ve had to deal with and sometimes that means you just don’t want to or simply can’t write.
I think this post is just a jumbled up way of me trying to tell myself that it’s ok not to be blogging all the time, and that people won’t mind if I’m not posting as regularly as I sometimes do. Quite often, I’m my own worst enemy, and am much harder on myself than anyone else is on me. After all, some of you might not have even noticed I’ve been MIA!
Plus, this is a post for anyone else out there who is feeling a similar way to me. That life is busy and full on, and sometimes things happen that you have no control over. Whilst blogging may be a full-time job and therefore an income for some people so posts need to be written, for many of us it is a hobby and hobbies shouldn’t be worried about. They should be picked up when the time is right, and are there to be enjoyed. I’ve truly found something I love in blogging, but also realise that I need to take care of myself first and then blog when I’m able to. Whilst I would like to be the most consistent and organised blogger going, I’ve gotta understand that sometimes real life just gets in the way of this and that isn’t my fault. So make sure you aren’t too hard on yourself either.
So are you finding it hard to blog consistently at the moment? Do you work full-time too and blog when you are able to? Or perhaps you took a break from blogging, then came back fully charged? I would love to know in the comments!
Until next time…
Jean xoxo

Absolutely feeling the same! Taking pictures for all the blog posts is the hardest part for me while working because I need daylight in my photos. I tried lights but the shadows are really hard to edit out and it’s just not the same as natural light so I only have the weekends to do like 30 photos and that’s if I’m feeling inspired and get some good shots! Keep on blogging and making drafts

I feel the exact same about photos too! It’s so annoying not having natural light when I get home from work. I’m hoping things will improve as the year goes on. You too ❤

I think it is easy to let real life get in the way of almost everything extra, but at the same time you have to be careful and make sure you are not letting real life get in the way of the things that are important!

Yeah it’s definitely a careful balance! I guess it depends what exactly is happening in real life.

I am totally in the same boat as you! Although my job makes it easier to make time (I’m a freelance writer/editor), I still have to tend to my work commitments (you know, writing for money instead of for free) and it’s the same deal. I also just launched my blog Sept 2016. I’m lucky if I publish one post a week!

Sometimes you have to prioritise your full time job as it’s what pays the bills! Time management can be tricky.

My blog became my full time job a little over two years ago. As awesome as it sounds, I do at times feel like I work 24/7 and forget real life off line exists lol…. it’s a hard balance from all ends when it comes to blogging

Yeah I can imagine that even when it’s your full time job its hard to switch off (literally!)

When I’m not blogging, I’m a freelance copywriter and sometimes I feel drained overwhelmed by all the writing I need to do. When my mom was diagnosed with cancer in 2015, my work was a great distraction until her treatment started not working. For awhile, I had a hard time finding the brain power or momentum to be creative. I had to let myself off the hook, which helped so much. Thankfully, her new treatment is working much better and I feel more incentive to work and be creative.

It’s interesting how we deal with things. I’m so glad her treatment is working better.

My blog is my business, so I sometimes have to force myself to write even on days when I really don’t want to, but honestly, I’m in a massive mental and emotional rut right now. If I could, I’d take a break for a week or two. Although some days, work is the only reason I get out of bed, so maybe it’s better that I HAVE to keep doing it.

It must be so hard for you, I hope you get out of your rut soon.

Exactly! I am glad that you are not beating yourself up about it because I too work a demanding series of full time jobs and blogging alongside it can be hard x

Oh I have been here many times! Yes blogging is a job and in between doing what I love and hobby, it can be moments where I need a break just like people feel on their job. Its common and its ok to take a mental break when needed and recharge.

You are not alone! I work full time and it can be so hard at times to blog. I’ve taken a break from blogging and came back to it last summer. I did an entire blog overhaul and it’s been inspiring. I enjoy blogging more now after my break.

Yes, I had issues with this, too. Probably will again. I have a full-time job outside of my blog, so I have to give priority to it. It’s really tough though, because I WANT to blog!

Sometimes I struggle with this too! As a photographer, sometimes I just need a break from the images and find myself not blogging them like I should. BUT, it really is important to find that balance so as not to get burnt out.

It’s not always easy to blog consistently because life does get in the way. I try to prioritize it since it is something that I truly enjoy doing.

So true. While blogging is a labor of love, too much of it can get in the way to mental peace. It can get overwhelming. Great advice!
