Homeware Faves from Around My House

So I recently asked on my Facebook page for any requests for a blog post and one suggestion was something homeware inspired. So I thought I would have a look round my house and show you some of my fave pieces! I’ll try to link the products where I can, however some are a few years old or were given as gifts so I may have to link something similar. So here are some of my lovely things…

I totally love this Sass and belle fox cushion – a cosy cushion from one of my fave brands Sass and Belle. It currently lives in our lounge. A very similar one is available on their website for £17.

A cute little duck from DCUK. I got this as a gift from my lovely momma as she knows I’m a bit duck obsessed. It’s made from wood and is beautifully done. I’ve linked a similar one from DCUK with cute little wellies on! It’s £14.95.

I think this home sweet home plaque was from B&M purchased a good few years ago. These can be picked up in lots of different places. Plus there’s so many goodies that can be picked up from B&M for amazing prices.

I really love this poster, ‘Love is all you need (chocolate, wine and new shoes don’t hurt though)’ – how completely spot on is this?! It’s a really decent size and I love it in its Ikea frame. Annoyingly I can’t remember where it’s from but there’s many available online, such as on NOTHS and Etsy.

I got this lovely ‘and they lived happily ever after’ from a friend as an engagement present. I have no idea where it was from but found this very lovely sign on NOTHS. I won this heart garland on Facebook a few years back. I found some similar here on Party Delights. I think they look really cute together.

I totally love this piece. I got it from By Laura Ann. I had to send them a picture of the front of my house and a colour scheme I wanted to use and this was the final piece. It makes me happy knowing that this is a personal piece to me and was so pleased with how it turned out. It’s so pretty!

This live laugh love flag is so pretty, I really love the Cath Kidston fabric. It comes on a little string so can be hung anywhere. I got it from Facebook a little while ago. East of India have a similar bunting, the same quote but repeated on several triangles.

I’ve got a couple of ampersands (the technical term for the ‘&’ sign if you didn’t know), and this is a gorge one. It says ‘you and me always and forever’ which is something I say to my husband, and was also the lyrics to one of our wedding songs (You and Me Song by The Wannadies). I got this from Facebook a few years back.

I got this as a wedding present and it’s really lovely! There’s definitely some great tips on there.  I think it was from Tesco but I can’t see it on there at the moment. There’s quite a few on eBay you can get your hands on.

These bricks are pretty fab. I love how you can change them throughout the year depending on the season, or just leave them on live love laugh. I got them off Facebook a few years ago.

I got this sign from the wonderful House of Wonderland. It was a personalised piece and I think this quote is so important. It’s in a central place in my house and I see it all the time which really helps me. I’ve also got lots of heart bits nearby, including these heart-shaped ‘biscuits’ from Fake a Cake which are just to cute!

I totally love this personalised plaque from Isabella and Louise – full of my absolute favourite things! Its great knowing nobody will have the same as me.

So these are just a few of the little things I have in my house! Which do you like best? Any recommendations for new things I should get? I would love to hear in the comments!

Until next time…

Jean xoxo

My Fave YouTubers

So, I must admit, I’m kinda obsessed with watching videos on YouTube. I like to do it sometimes instead of watching TV and I find it’s a distraction if I’ve got something on my mind or if I’m stressing about something (which is me most of the time). I also find it great to learn about make-up because I’m totally clueless with that, and discovering products that other people rave about.  Plus, YouTube is great for finding out the answer or getting advice on really random things! So without further ado, and in no particular order, these are some of my favourite YouTubers…

So I’ve been a fan of Becky for a little while on YouTube and she has nearly 200,000 subscribers. She is a similar age to me so I find her totally relatable and I really enjoy her content – mainly beauty/make-up/hauls/hacks etc. I was even lucky enough to meet Becky last September through a competition I won and she was even lovelier in person! Plus she inspired me to finally get started with writing this blog, so I owe a lot to her. Her sister Holly and her mom Growing old disgracefully are also on YouTube and are worth checking out too.

So pretty much everyone has heard of Zoe (commonly known as Zoella) in the world of YouTube. She has been doing it for ages and has developed a massive following (11 and a half million YouTube subscribers). When someone is ridiculously big, it can kind of be off-putting as everyone is watching the same stuff. However I do really like her, she seems a lot of fun and I enjoy her content. She posts about lots of different things from fashion to room tours to monthly favourites, and I particularly enjoy her DIYs. I have also completely fallen in love with her lifestyle range, especially this bag.

So Sophie is probably the least known person on this list (with nearly 30,000 subscribers), but I totally love watching her videos! She seems like the loveliest person ever, and is really sweet! I could definitely imagine having her as a friend. I can definitely relate to her content and we seem to like the same things so I’m always interested in what she is posting. She enjoys Primark nearly as much as I do (check out my latest haul here) and is totally Disney obsessed which I love! Go follow her if you don’t already.

Fabulous Hannah

So Hannah is another of my faves and has around 200,000 followers. I really like her and she makes me giggle! She’s honest and upfront and I really respected her recently when she posted a months worth of videos with no make up on. Like the others, she posts a random mix of videos and has a varied content. She doesn’t try to be perfect (like her Christmas baking disaster video) and that is really refreshing in this day and age!

So Lucy and Lydia are twins if you hadn’t guessed it, and they have 270,000 subscribers on YouTube. These 2 definitely seem like a lot of fun, and bounce off each other. Again they have similar content to the others – hauls, make-up, chatty videos etc – and watching them cheers me up as they’re so happy and bubbly. They mostly post together but occasionally post separately such as recently when they spoke about what was on their phones and how they edit their Instagram photos – Lucy Lydia

I’ve been subscribed to Gabby’s channel for a while now and she has just over 900,000 subscribers. The thing I like most about her is her honesty. She talks frankly about her life and her feelings and what has happened in the past. As well as the ‘usual’ videos she also posts song covers which is something I think she is eager to pursue more. Gabby has a home range in Primark which is really cute and is full of lots of lovely products at really affordable prices.

So these are just a few of my favourite YouTubers. I am subscribed to quite a few channels but I seem to go back to these ones the most. Do you have any favourite YouTubers? Let me know in the comments and I’ll be sure to check them out. And if you are on YouTube, leave your link and I’ll be sure to subscribe to your channel! (here is mine, I’ve barely posted but it is something I would love to develop in the future and think could be a lot of fun.)

Until next time…

Saal Digital Photo Book Review

So some of you may know that in March 2016 my other half and I got married. We had the most amazing day, it was totally unforgettable. One of the most important decisions we made before the wedding was choosing an incredible photographer to capture our special moments. We eventually decided on the fabulous Chris J Turner. We ended up going for a digital package as we weren’t quite sure what we wanted to do about a wedding album. However, since the wedding I’ve been desperate to get my hands on an album. Don’t get me wrong, I totally love looking at our lovely photos on the laptop, but nothing beats having something physical to look at and share with others. So when I was given the opportunity* to get a special album for the lovely people at Saal Digital, I jumped at the chance. I couldn’t wait to fill an album with our gorgeous photos.

So I went onto their website to get started. Like many similar websites in the same field, you are able to choose from a range of products including photo books, photos, wall decor, cards, art, photo posters, calendars and photo booklets. The website encourages you to download their software to create your project, but you are also able to use their direct upload function (which is what most other photo upload websites solely seem to use). Both options are free, so its just a question of personal preference. I decided to download the software.

So once I had got the software I wanted to get started. I had to select my options, so obviously started by choosing photo book. I was then able to decide on how I wanted the book to look – size, portrait/landscape, amount of pages, cover options (type, colour, padding etc) and if I wanted the photos to be matte or glossy. There were so many different options which allow you to get the book just how you want it. The next step was choosing the template/layout to use and there were a few differnt ones to choose from. These varied from weddings, babies, religious etc. Alternatively there is the option to keep it simple with a basic layout. Now I needed to choose the pictures I wanted in my photo book. This could be done by selecting all from an album on the computer, or deciding individually. Once I had done this, it was time to fill the pages! This could be done using an auto-fill function, or individually dragging and dropping. I was also able to play around with the layouts on each page to get them exactly how I wanted them. I was then able to add it to my cart and pay for it. The software made me check all of the pages just to make sure I was completely happy with it all which I think is a good idea. It also alllowed me to save and return to the book if I needed to.

So the options I decided on was – a hardcover photobook 28 x 19 cm  30 pages with a glossy un-padded cover and glossy pages. The price of this was £39.45. This seems to be quite competitive with other photo upload websites. They’re also offering £15 off at the moment, your unique discount code can be found here

So I really enjoyed making my photo book. I’m not going to lie, I had moments of stress, but that was only because I wanted to get the book just right. It was a little tricky for me as I had more than 600 photos that I wanted to squeeze into 30 pages. So for ease I wanted to select the whole album and let the software do its thing, but it just wasn’t feasible for a relatively short book. Therefore I had to select the images I wanted to use for the book beforehand and this was no way easy because I absolutely love them all! It however worked out and I was pleased once I’d selected my absolute faves. It took a few times of playing around and saving and returning to the project to get it just right. Throughout the process, I had some email communication with Saal and they were helpful and encouraged me to get in touch if I had any problems. Once I had put my order through it didn’t take too long for the book to arrive. Whilst there was some drama with the postman delivering it to another house, that was obviously not the fault of the company. As soon as I got my hands on the book, I couldn’t wait to look at it! And it really didn’t disappoint. I was so happy with the quality of the photos and the glossy pages made them look so good! It is definitely something I will treasure. Here are a few snaps from the finished product …

I would definitely use this company again in the future, whether it is for another photo book or a different product.

Until next time…

Jean xoxo

[*I was very kindly sent a hefty discount code to use to get the photobook for a small amount in return for a review. However, all opinions are my own.]

December faves

So with the craziness of Christmas and then NY I somehow forgot about December faves…until now! I love doing monthly faves so didn’t want to miss December out, so here goes! The top 5 things I was loving…

1. Santa Mug

So if you read my recent post about the bargains I picked up in Primark (Primark December Haul), you’ll have seen this little beauty before. I’m totally in love with this festive mug! I used it all over Christmas and would happily use it all year round, that’s totally acceptable isn’t it?! It’s such a great size and a lovely mug and was only £4!

2. Self Care

So I really felt self-care was important in December so tried to pamper and take care of myself as much as poss. It was a combination of tiredness, feeling run down, needing cheering up and generally just stopping and relaxing. It did me the world of good and definitely something I want to make sure I do as much as I can throughout 2017.

3. Festive Jumpers

I’m a total sucker for a festive jumper so tried to wear as many as I could in December. This is one of my faves and a bit of a classier one I picked up from, yes you’ve guessed it, my fave shop Aspire.

4. Benefit Besties

So I got this for Christmas  so only got to play with it a bit in December, but am totally in love with my Benefit Besties gift set. It’s full of Benefit’s best-selling products as minis and comes with a cute make up bag. I’m excited to use it throughout January and inevitably buy some of the full-sized products when these run out. I’m sure a review will be coming soon so look out for that on the blog. If you want to see what else I got for Christmas, you can find out here – What I got for Christmas 2016.

5. Lightbox

So you might have seen this pop on my Instagram a few times in December if you follow me – my lightbox. Purchased from Iwoot, I’ve been loving using it to write messages. And I’ve not even put the light on it yet! It looks good enough off as it does on in my opinion. They seem really hard to get hold of at a decent price so I’m really glad to have one in my life.

So these are my top 5 for December. What did you love during the last month of the year? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time…

Jean xoxo

This Time Next Year…

So I saw this idea floating around at the end of last year. Based on the ITV programme in which members of the public state what they want to achieve by that time in a year, it has also appeared in the blogging world. So I thought that there is no better time than the 1st of January to tell all you lovely readers what 10 things I would like to achieve during the next 365 days.

  1. To be pleased with how 2017 went – Like most people, at the end of the year I get reflective. And most years I seem a bit miffed about how the year went for me. For personal reasons, I found 2016 pretty hard, particularly the last few months. I hope that this time in a year I’m feeling a bit better about the year that has just passed.
  2. To be a more positive person – Kinda linked to the above one I guess. I need to make sure I’m noticing all the good things that are just happening rather than focussing on the negative. I think my brain needs re-wiring as I’m a glass half empty kinda gal. I’ve got my Happiness Planner through 2017 to help with this and really hope I’m a much more positive person by the end of the year.
  3. To make this blog a success – I only started this blog back in October so it is still early doors, but I would like to look back at 2017 as the year my blog began to take off. I’m pleased with how well it is going so far, and whilst I don’t get to post as much as I would like to, I’m determined to put as much as I can into this blog throughout this next year.
  4. To grow my Instagram following and interaction – I’ve loved Instagram from the day I downloaded the app a few years ago and nothing has changed since. Over the past few months I’ve really tried to pick up my game and it seems to be working well so far. I want to up my photography game and connect with as many like-minded people as possible throughout 2017. Hopefully by the end of 2017 I’ll have plenty more followers and interaction.
  5. To start a family – I got married in 2016 and in 2017 I would love to start a family. Nothing more to say really, will just have to see what 2017 brings!
  6. To get into reading – I have so many amazing books that I haven’t got round to reading, so I really hope that in 2017 I can find the time to read them. I’d like to mix up fiction and non-fiction and read them on my Kindle as well as hard copies. You can expect lots of reviews throughout this year.
  7. To become more organised – Again I’m hoping The Happiness Planner will help me to become a more organised person.  It seems like a really in-depth planner and the best I’ve tried so far. I think this is aim is the key to the rest of the list because if I’m more organised I can use my time more wisely and achieve as much as I can.
  8. To be more tidy – I have improved so much with this since being a messy teenager but I would love to become a more tidy person! Both at work and at home I can often be surrounded by clutter and I just really need to keep on top of everything. Tidy desk, tidy mind and all that, I think it would do me the world of good.
  9. To live life more and live out of my comfort zone – Some things that have happened recently have shown me that I really need to live life to the fullest more. I need to take more risks and push myself to do things that scare me a little to really live my life. Here’s hoping by the end of 2017 I can say I did this.
  10. To stop comparing myself and my life to others’ – I’ve been working on this for as long as I can remember, and whilst I feel I have improved somewhat, I still have a long way to go. I can definitely relate to Steve Furtick’s quote:” The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel“. I think we all have a habit of doing this, especially with all of the social media we are surrounded by. I’m also a bit age obsessed and think certain things should happen by certain ages. This is plain daft and everyone does things at different times in their lives, and often in a different order. This shouldn’t be seen as a problem, it’s just how life rolls. I just need to let go.

So these are the things I want to have happened by this time in a year. Have you got anything you’d like to achieve this year? Let me know in the comments below, or why not write your own post! I would love to read it!

Until next time…

What I got for Christmas 2016

So I was really lucky to get some gorgeous gifts this Christmas. Most of them I had put on my list to Santa, so was chuffed to pieces when they arrived. Although not as exciting as lots of surprises, I appreciate getting things I asked for as I know they’ll be well used. I also got lots of lovely things as secret Santa gifts. In no particular order, here is what I got!

*As these were all presents, I won’t be posting links, but if any take your fancy I’m sure they’ll be available online*

  1. UP24 by Jawbone Small Wireless Activity and Sleep Tracking Wristband for iOS and Android – Onyx

I asked for this as I was interested to know how much I slept in a night and how many steps I do a day. I didn’t want anything fancy or too expensive. I really like my Jawbone. It’s black so it goes with everything and it looks like a simple bracelet. I link it up to a free app on my phone and it does exactly what I want it to.

2. Lindt Milk Chocolate Snowman

I often get chocolates like this for Christmas alongside money from family friends, and I love them! Lindt is one of my faves and these snowmen are really cute! They don’t last long though!

3. The White Company – Fresh Fig Hand and Nail Gift Set

I’m not sure I’ve actually ever tried anything from The White Company before, so I’m really eager to give this set a go. It comes with a hand wash and also a hand and nail cream. It seems like really good quality.

4. Choc on Choc Chocolate Biscuits

I’ve seen these chocolates before but have never tried them. Yes I said chocolates – these aren’t biscuits! The likeness to our favourite British biscuits is uncanny and I can’t wait to eat them!

5. River Island top and tights

I really love this gift from a family friend and think its a great combo! Obviously teamed up with a cute skirt, I think this would look great together. I’m totally loving the ruffles and the full length sleeves of the top.

6. The Happiness Planner and Pen Set

I really wanted The Happiness Planner and it was top of my Christmas list. I’ve wanted it for a ling time, but didn’t really feel I could justify spending that much on myself  for a planner (£40). However, when asked what I wanted I knew it had to be this! And it doesn’t disappoint. I would like to write a blog post on it in the new year so won’t go into too much detail, but its perfect for anyone who wants to be organised and improve their happiness throughout the year. I was also given some extra stationery which I can’t wait to get on my desk. It’s a mixture of copper and gold.

7. Trendz Power Bank

I’m totally in love with the print on this power bank and it will definitely be coming with me everywhere! Plus, I’ll be getting it out at any given opportunity! Practical and pretty, what’s not to love?!

8. Trendz Phone Case

Again, I’m totally in love with this print. It’s a tad Cath Kidston which is a winner in my books and I can’t wait to get it on my phone.

9. Insta Flash

Another fab phone accessory! I really wanted to try one of these so was pleased to see it under the tree on Christmas Day. Working full-time, at the moment I usually only get to take photos when it’s dark outside and seem to have trouble with light. I guess its main purpose is for improving your selfie game which of course I’m up for, but I’m also going to use it to (hopefully) get better lighting in my pics. Will have to see how that goes!

10. Heart Shaped Bowl

I got this as a secret Santa gift and it’s really me. I love hearts, and I love having trinkets and places to put all my bits and bobs so this works well! I like the design and think it’ll look great on my dressing table.

11. Lindt Lindor Orange

It seems I’m a bit Lindt obsessed doesn’t it?! I was chuffed to get these as I’m a massive fan of chocolate orange but I’m not really sure I’ve tried these Lindt ones. I can’t wait to try them.

12. Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint Barry M (Dragon Fruit) and 2 Silicone Nail Polish Holders

I got the nail polish as a secret Santa prezzie and I really love the colour. I don’t think I’ve tried the Barry M Gelly Hi Shine’s before so it’ll be interesting to see what its like. I’ve been eyeing up the nail polish holders for a while now and even though they’re quite cheap, I thought I would put them on my Christmas list. Hopefully they’ll make painting my nails a bit easier!

13. Prosecco Lip Balm, Bath Salts and Mug

Another secret Santa gift, I think I must be pretty easy to buy for! Whilst I enjoy a tipple now and again, and I do like prosecco, I wouldn’t say its my absolute fave. However, I’m totally in love with these gifts. The lip balm tastes great and is moisturising, the bath salts smell amazing, and the mug is just the cutest! Seriously looking forward to having a bath surrounded by the scent of prosecco and some prosecco in my mug….ahhhh bliss!

14. Christmas Merry MoltenTruffles – M&S

I got these from a friend and am so excited to try them – I’ve never had chocolates that you have to heat up before! I’m yet to eat them as I’m in a serious chocolate coma as it is, but when I do get round to trying them, I’m sure they’ll be amazing!

15. Benefit Besties

I had spotted this in Boots a few weeks before Christmas and knew I needed it in my life, so it went straight on my list. It’s full of lots of the Benefit best sellers but in miniature form and also comes with a make-up bag. I’ve tried a few of the products, but not all of them so was eager to see what they were like before buying the full size version. I might do a little review of these in the new year.

So these are the main things I got for Christmas this year. Considering I wasn’t buying for many so didn’t expect to get many in return I think I did well! What do you like best? Did you get anything nice this year? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time…

Primark December Haul

So just before Christmas, I took a trip to Primark. I love a bit of Primark action, but don’t get chance to visit very often. So when I was in there I made sure I picked up some lovely bits and bobs! Here’s what I grabbed…

Set of 3 Quote Magnets, £2 reduced to £1

Ever the quote obsessive, I couldn’t help but pick up these. I need to follow what they say! Only a pound too and I’m always on the lookout for magnets to stick on the fridge.

Chokers (silver), £2

Chokers (gold), £3

I’m totally late to the party with this trend, but couldn’t resist all these gorge chokers! I went for some silver and gold ones to go with different outfits, and all these for a fiver I really can’t complain. Getting serous 90’s flashbacks!

Triple Set of Gold Necklaces, £3

I think these are the cutest! A set of 3 necklaces that can be worn together or separately, I just had to have them. I love how delicate and geometric they are. I can’t wait to wear these with a pretty top.

Bauble Blending Sponges, £2.50 reduced to £1

These were sold in the bauble, and as quite a nice little Christmas gift, I was intrigued. But I wasn’t planning on giving them away, I wanted do try them for myself! I want to see if they give the beauty blender a run for it’s money at just a snip of the price. They were reduced to a pound at the till so for 50p each you can’t go wrong!

Faux Fur Pompom Keyring, £2

Again this is something I keep seeing everywhere! I liked the colour of this pompon and it’s size. I’m undecided whether to have it on my keys or on a matching bag. It will definitely be noticed!

Pointed False Nails, £1 reduced to 50p

I haven’t bought any false nails from Primark in the past,  but couldn’t resist these for 50p! I might wear them for NYE. I’ve never had pointed nails before so I’ll either love them or hate them!

Unicorn Keyring, £2

Not entirely sure why, but I’m unicorn obsessed at the moment, along with mermaids! So I just needed this keyring in my life! I just think it’s really cute, and my keyrings could do with being updated.

Silver Hoops, £1

So I keep seeing people in hoops at the moment and I’m willing to give this look a go. I’m sure I tried back in my teenage years and didn’t seem to be able to carry it off, but a pound for a pack of 5 means that if I look like a full on chav then it doesn’t really matter!

Sweet Vanilla & Coconut Reed Diffuser, £3

So if you read my Christmas Gift Guide 2016 you’ll know I’m a fan of the reed diffuser. I just had to pick this one up. My husband is a tad coconut obsessed which has in turn made me too, so this was the scent I had to go for. I don’t think I’ve tried a Primark reed diffuser in the past so it’ll be interesting to see how long it lasts and what the scent pay off is like.

Whitening Toothpaste, 60p

Who knew that Primark sold toothpaste? For 60p I was intrigued and wanted to give this ago. I’ve only just started using it so can’t comment on its whitening skills yet but it actually tastes quite nice! I just hope it looks after my teeth.

Natural Glossy Tights (5 pack, 10 denier), £3

Really unexciting – I needed flesh coloured tights so I bought some! Hoping they last a few wears before laddering, that drives me insane!

Black Weather Sensor Finish Opaque Tights (3 pairs, 80 denier), £3.50

A tad more exciting than the other tights as these ones sound clever! Apparently, they keep you warm when it’s cold, and cool when it’s too hot so it’ll be interesting if they actually do. You can never go wrong with black opaques in the winter.

Chelsea Wedges, £10

I love boots in the winter, and fell in love with this colour. I don’t have any wedged boots so wanted to have these. For a tenner you can’t really go wrong! They seem comfy too which is most important to me.

Low Block Glitter Boot, £12

Yes another pair of boots, but I just couldn’t resist! Probably not everyone’s cup of tea but I love these! I think they would really jazz up an outfit and I think there’s something festive about them. I’m all for the chunky heel at the moment plus they’re not high at all which works for me.

Santa Mug, £4

I just couldn’t resist this cute Santa mug! What better than sipping a cuppa out of Santa on Christmas Day? Although it’s £4 it’s a really decent size and seems  like good quality. Plus it keeps your cuppa hot for quite a long time. I have a cupboard full of mugs but I’ll make room for this cutie.

Blue Zip Clutch, £5 reduced to £2

I couldn’t resist this bag for only £2. I want to update my going out bags and was just drawn to the colour of this one. I’m not sure how much I’ll fit in, but I just thought it was great for the price.

Metallic tee, reduced to £2

Not 100% convinced about this top but again I couldn’t resist for £2! It seems like a green-gold kinda shade and whilst I would like it more gold, I can’t really complain! It’s just a basic shaped tee, but I thought it looked a little bit festive.

So that’s what I picked up! What do you like best? Have you picked up anything from Primark recently?

Until next time…

Jean xoxo
