When Real Life Gets in the Way of Blogging

So, you may or may not have noticed recently that my blog posts have been a bit sparse. I’m totally aware of this myself. In the past I have told myself I NEED to post at least 2 blog posts a week. Otherwise, people will get disinterested and won’t bother reading my blog any more. After only starting my blog in October 2016, I’m trying so hard to keep the momentum up and make this blog a success. But sometimes this can be hard. After all, I have a very busy, full on full-time job that isn’t just 9-5, 5 days a week, it’s so much more than that. Especially of late, when I’ve had a lot going on and plenty of commitments at work. Not only that, I’ve had a lot of different things happen in my personal life recently that I’ve had to deal with and sometimes that means you just don’t want to or simply can’t write.

I think this post is just a jumbled up way of me trying to tell myself that it’s ok not to be blogging all the time, and that people won’t mind if I’m not posting as regularly as I sometimes do. Quite often, I’m my own worst enemy, and am much harder on myself than anyone else is on me. After all, some of you might not have even noticed I’ve been MIA!

Plus, this is a post for anyone else out there who is feeling a similar way to me. That life is busy and full on, and sometimes things happen that you have no control over. Whilst blogging may be a full-time job and therefore an income for some people so posts need to be written, for many of us it is a hobby and hobbies shouldn’t be worried about. They should be picked up when the time is right, and are there to be  enjoyed. I’ve truly found something I love in blogging, but also realise that I need to take care of myself first and then blog when I’m able to. Whilst I would like to be the most consistent and organised blogger going, I’ve gotta understand that sometimes real life just gets in the way of this and that isn’t my fault. So make sure you aren’t too hard on yourself either.

So are you finding it hard to blog consistently at the moment? Do you work full-time too and blog when you are able to? Or perhaps you took a break from blogging, then came back fully charged? I would love to know in the comments!

Until next time…

Jean xoxo

How to Have a Happy and Healthy Holiday

So we have all done it. You’re are on holiday. The sun is shining, the drinks are flowing and the all-inclusive food is surrounding you wherever you look. You had all good intentions of keeping all that pre-holiday weight off, heading to the hotel gym on a daily basis and making the most of the fitness classes. But that all fell at the wayside as soon as you arrived at the hotel and decided that the most you would be doing over the next 2 weeks was walking from the pool side to the bar. After all, you’re feeling stressed out from your life back at home and you’ve come on holiday to forget all your troubles and really enjoy yourself.

But holidays don’t have to be a time to overindulge and be lazy. Yes, you want a relaxing time away in the sun, but holidays can actually be a really great time to rejuvenate. You can maintain your health and wellbeing on holiday, and return home feeling like a new person! Wanna know how? Here are some of my tips!

img_8201

Sleep – holidays can be a great time to catch up on sleep. No I don’t mean lying in until midday every day, but by getting some good quality sleep in a nice comfy bed, you will feel so much better for it.

Exercise – exercise = endorphins, and endorphins make you happy. When you’re on holiday, there are lots of different types of exercise you can do, whatever your fitness level is. Perhaps a swim in the pool, or a walk around the local town? Or if you’re feeling really energetic, you might want an early morning run across the sea front and watch the sun rise. There are many different options.

Yoga and meditation – yoga is a great way to improve both your body and you mind. Improve your core strength, focus on your breathing, and switch off from the world for a little while. When you combine this with meditation, you will feel in a much better place. Why not visit a yoga school or a retreat, such as in the very beautiful Tuscany. There are a range of different locations and types of yoga to choose from to allow you to have your perfect holiday.

Eat well – it’s so important to eat well whilst you’re on holiday, making sure you nourish your body. You also need to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated in the sun and particularly if you’re exercising. There is so much incredible fresh, tasty food to be had worldwide, that will make you feel so much better from the inside out.

Gratitude – if you read this blog, you’ll know I’m a fan of practising gratitude (see What are you grateful for today? ). Doing so is known to improve your emotional well-being and physical health. Why not record just 3 things you’re grateful for before bed. It only needs to be in a small notepad so you don’t need to worry about it taking any room up in your case! You’ll wake up feeling much happier, and will find yourself noticing more things that make you grateful throughout the day, no matter how small they are.

Smile! – it may seem like an obvious one, but by smiling more, you feel happier. Plus, smiles are contagious, so the more people you smile at, the better everyone else will feel!

Self care – it is important to carry on with your self-care routine on holiday. Perhaps you could go for a massage. Or maybe put a face mask on? What about having a manicure or someone styling your hair for you? These are just a few little things you can do for yourself to make you feel better and a bit more pampered and taken care of. Combined with many of the other points on this list, you will feel so much better after your time away.

Switch off from social media – easier said than done, but when you’re on holiday, you need to try take a break from your busy life and that includes what all your friends are up to back at home. This is a time for you, and Facebook will still be there once you get home. Sure, you can take a few snaps of your time away to catch some of your holiday memories, but they don’t need to be uploaded to Instagram until you get back home.

Read that book you’ve not had chance to – I don’t know about you, but I rarely get time to read at home, there always seems to be too much going on. However, holidays are the perfect time for reading. And if there isn’t enough room in your case for a whole wad of books, simply add some to your Kindle and slip that in instead.

Learn a new skill – holidays can be a great time to learn a new skill. Perhaps you want to pick up the language of the country you are stopping in, or learn some new yoga poses to add to your repertoire, why not do it whilst you’re away? You might feel inspired to carry on learning once you get home.

Set and review goals – having a break from your ‘everyday life’ might allow you to put your life into perspective – are you living the life you always dreamed of? If not, what could you do this year to help you achieve it? You might want to make a dream board when you get home to help with this.

So theses are just a few things you can do on holiday to feel a bit happier and healthier. Will you be doing any of these things on your next holiday? Do you have any other tips for a rejuvenated holiday? Leave them in the comments!

Until next time…

Jean xoxo

January Faves

So it’s the last day of January, which means it’s time for my January faves! Considering January is meant to be a pretty rubbish month, it’s actually been pretty much ok for me. I’ve been trying to stay more positive which has probably been a big help. I hope you’ve all had a good first month of 2017. Now, on to my top 5 things this month…

  1. #SavouringJanuary2017

So if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know I’ve been joining in with this hashtag all month. I discovered the challenge around NYE so was happy I could join in from the first of the month. It basically involved posting a picture daily related to the date and the word shown in this pic. It’s all about being mindful, savouring the day and posting with a purpose. I must say I really enjoyed this challenge, and it really made me think. I’m so glad I did it and will definitely join in next year. Make sure you check out Gabrielle on Instagram for gorgeous content and fab courses and challenges.

2. Procoal

So I was recently sent this product to try and was totally intrigued to how I would get on! I won’t go into too much detail as I have a blog post featuring it coming very soon, but I must say I’m really enjoying using it. Plus I’ve had so many people ask about it after seeing it featured on my Instagram feed so can’t wait to share all with you guys!

3. Prosecco mug

So those of you who read this blog regularly will remember this being featured in my post What I got for Christmas 2016. And since Christmas I have been using it so much! It’s an amazing size for a nice big cuppa, and I just love how it looks and feels. Sorry for another mug featured in my faves (just like December) but what can I say, I’m a total mug addict! Available here if you want one for yourself.

4. Bio-Oil

Another product I have been sent recently is this Bio-Oil. Most people have heard of this wonder product, but I somehow have got to the grand old age of 28 without ever using it before. And I’ve gotta say I love it! Again, I have a blog post coming very soon so don’t want to go into too much detail, but I’m loving the results on my skin from using this daily throughout January.

5. Cat Lady PJs

Again another feature from my What I got for Christmas 2016 post, I’ve been loving these cute PJs from David and Goliath. Whilst they’re probably more summer than winter PJs with having a vest top, I’ve just been wearing them anyway! They’re super comfy and ever so cute, and the icing on the cake it that the bottoms have pockets! Am I the only one who is obsessed with clothes having pockets? Anyhoo, these PJs make me happy!

So these are my faves! Which do you like best? What have your faves been this month?

Until next time…

Blogger Recognition Award

blogger-recognition

Today I am doing the Blogger Recognition Award! I was very kindly nominated by the lovely Chloe at Marble beauty. She posts about beauty and lifestyle and lots of bits in between! I really loved her recent Primark haul. So thank you very much for nominating me!

The Rules

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Write a post to show your award.
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Select 15 bloggers you want to give this award to.
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them, providing a link to the post you created.

How my blog started

So if you didn’t already know, I’m pretty new to blogging, having just started in October 2016. I did briefly write a few years ago on a different blog, but I didn’t really stick at it, and it soon fizzled out. This time, I knew I wanted to start the blog but kept putting it off. I was scared about putting myself out there, and also wanted to start with everything being perfectly in place and knowing everything about being a successful blogger. The push I finally needed was meeting the very lovely Talk Becky Talk in September 2016 who gave me lots of fab advice and has been so helpful ever since. So I’ve been rolling with it, and am totally loving it!

Advice to new bloggers

  1. If you’re like me and are too scared to start writing, just go for it! You’ll find your feet along the way, discover how things work and have lots of fun. It can be a bit scary putting yourself out there, but people are so lovely and appreciate your content. Sometimes you just need to push yourself out of your comfort zone!
  2. Engage with fellow bloggers – on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and of course on their own blogs. Like, share, comment, retweet…if you do that, then people are likely to do the same for you. Get talking to each other and share tips. It’s a really lovely way to make friends too!

Tag

So sorry to anyone who may have been nominated before, but here are my tags. Can’t wait to read your posts!

Beer52 Box Review

So before Christmas, I was very kindly sent the Christmas box from the very lovely people at Beer52. You might have seen the box pop up in my Christmas Gift Guide 2016 but I wanted to give you a proper review of this box of beers, and your very own dicount code (so keep reading until the end if you want to get your hands on that!)

So if you’ve never heard of Beer52, I’ll fill you in. They are the UK’s biggest craft beer discovery club and they offer a subscription service that sends you a selection of craft beers to try every month from around the world.

First of all, the beer experts choose the best beers personalised to you. Then, you get sent eight different craft beers, a snack, and a copy of ‘Ferment’ magazine. Delivery is free and you can try the beers in your own time. Once you’ve started the ball rolling and signed up, you will get the beer in 2-3 days. You get sent one case per month (although this can be adapted if you need to by getting in touch with the team).

What is special about this club is that the beers are exclusive, unique and small batch. That means none of the beer you see all the time in bars and pubs. The beer is also very fresh, having only been brewed 4-6 weeks ago. Plus there are lots of benefits to being in the beer club – from loyalty rewards, to free beers, to merchandise, its defintiely worth being part of this club! However, if you’d rather, you can just sign up for a one off box here.

So the price of the subsription box is £24 for 8 beers or £29 for 10 beers on a monthly plan billed every 28 days. Or you can save money by paying for 3, 6 or 12 month memberships (3 months -£23/case; 6 months – £22/case; 12 months – £21/case).

If you are a regular reader of this blog, or someone who knows me well, you wouldn’t think that this is the kind of product I would go for. However, I really loved the concept of the box, and I knew that this was something I could enjoy with my other half. I was really intrigued about what I would be sent. Plus, who doesn’t love a nice beer every now and then?!

So without further ado, here are the beers I got…

I was sent ‘Ferment’ magazine, the UK’s number one craft beer magazine to read whilst sipping on my beer:

I was also sent a yummy snack to try whilst enjoying my beers:

These were the beers I recieved, one at a time:

I won’t be reviewing each beer individually as each box will vary depending on your tastes. However, I really enjoyed the selection of beers I recieved, as did my other half. I also appreciated the fact that some Christmas/festive inspired beers were included with it being just before Christmas when I was sent the box. Obviously, some beers we enjoyed more than others, but it was great being able to try such a range. I think that Beer52 is a great present idea for that craft beer fan in your life, or even as a treat for yourself! Its a great way to discover new beers that you might not have come across before, and because it is personalised to you, you’re more than likely to love them! There are different plans to choose from, or just a one off box, so you can just see what works best for you!

So do you want £10 off your order? Simply enter JEAN10 to get a tenner off! That means 8 beers for just £14. Don’t say I never treat you! (Just a heads up, the discount code can only be used with the Beer Club, not one off boxes.)

Until next time…

Jean xoxo

P.S. Make sure you’re following me on FacebookTwitterInstagram and Pinterest

[*I was very kindly sent this box to try for free. However, all views are completely my own, and I would never review something I didn’t love myself.*]

Homeware Faves from Around My House

So I recently asked on my Facebook page for any requests for a blog post and one suggestion was something homeware inspired. So I thought I would have a look round my house and show you some of my fave pieces! I’ll try to link the products where I can, however some are a few years old or were given as gifts so I may have to link something similar. So here are some of my lovely things…

I totally love this Sass and belle fox cushion – a cosy cushion from one of my fave brands Sass and Belle. It currently lives in our lounge. A very similar one is available on their website for £17.

A cute little duck from DCUK. I got this as a gift from my lovely momma as she knows I’m a bit duck obsessed. It’s made from wood and is beautifully done. I’ve linked a similar one from DCUK with cute little wellies on! It’s £14.95.

I think this home sweet home plaque was from B&M purchased a good few years ago. These can be picked up in lots of different places. Plus there’s so many goodies that can be picked up from B&M for amazing prices.

I really love this poster, ‘Love is all you need (chocolate, wine and new shoes don’t hurt though)’ – how completely spot on is this?! It’s a really decent size and I love it in its Ikea frame. Annoyingly I can’t remember where it’s from but there’s many available online, such as on NOTHS and Etsy.

I got this lovely ‘and they lived happily ever after’ from a friend as an engagement present. I have no idea where it was from but found this very lovely sign on NOTHS. I won this heart garland on Facebook a few years back. I found some similar here on Party Delights. I think they look really cute together.

I totally love this piece. I got it from By Laura Ann. I had to send them a picture of the front of my house and a colour scheme I wanted to use and this was the final piece. It makes me happy knowing that this is a personal piece to me and was so pleased with how it turned out. It’s so pretty!

This live laugh love flag is so pretty, I really love the Cath Kidston fabric. It comes on a little string so can be hung anywhere. I got it from Facebook a little while ago. East of India have a similar bunting, the same quote but repeated on several triangles.

I’ve got a couple of ampersands (the technical term for the ‘&’ sign if you didn’t know), and this is a gorge one. It says ‘you and me always and forever’ which is something I say to my husband, and was also the lyrics to one of our wedding songs (You and Me Song by The Wannadies). I got this from Facebook a few years back.

I got this as a wedding present and it’s really lovely! There’s definitely some great tips on there.  I think it was from Tesco but I can’t see it on there at the moment. There’s quite a few on eBay you can get your hands on.

These bricks are pretty fab. I love how you can change them throughout the year depending on the season, or just leave them on live love laugh. I got them off Facebook a few years ago.

I got this sign from the wonderful House of Wonderland. It was a personalised piece and I think this quote is so important. It’s in a central place in my house and I see it all the time which really helps me. I’ve also got lots of heart bits nearby, including these heart-shaped ‘biscuits’ from Fake a Cake which are just to cute!

I totally love this personalised plaque from Isabella and Louise – full of my absolute favourite things! Its great knowing nobody will have the same as me.

So these are just a few of the little things I have in my house! Which do you like best? Any recommendations for new things I should get? I would love to hear in the comments!

Until next time…

My Fave YouTubers

So, I must admit, I’m kinda obsessed with watching videos on YouTube. I like to do it sometimes instead of watching TV and I find it’s a distraction if I’ve got something on my mind or if I’m stressing about something (which is me most of the time). I also find it great to learn about make-up because I’m totally clueless with that, and discovering products that other people rave about.  Plus, YouTube is great for finding out the answer or getting advice on really random things! So without further ado, and in no particular order, these are some of my favourite YouTubers…

TalkBeckyTalk

talk-becky-talk

So I’ve been a fan of Becky for a little while on YouTube and she has nearly 200,000 subscribers. She is a similar age to me so I find her totally relatable and I really enjoy her content – mainly beauty/make-up/hauls/hacks etc. I was even lucky enough to meet Becky last September through a competition I won and she was even lovelier in person! Plus she inspired me to finally get started with writing this blog, so I owe a lot to her. Her sister Holly and her mom Growing old disgracefully are also on YouTube and are worth checking out too.

Zoella

zoella

So pretty much everyone has heard of Zoe (commonly known as Zoella) in the world of YouTube. She has been doing it for ages and has developed a massive following (11 and a half million YouTube subscribers). When someone is ridiculously big, it can kind of be off-putting as everyone is watching the same stuff. However I do really like her, she seems a lot of fun and I enjoy her content. She posts about lots of different things from fashion to room tours to monthly favourites, and I particularly enjoy her DIYs. I have also completely fallen in love with her lifestyle range, especially this bag.

SophieBelle

sophiebelle

So Sophie is probably the least known person on this list (with nearly 30,000 subscribers), but I totally love watching her videos! She seems like the loveliest person ever, and is really sweet! I could definitely imagine having her as a friend. I can definitely relate to her content and we seem to like the same things so I’m always interested in what she is posting. She enjoys Primark nearly as much as I do (check out my latest haul here) and is totally Disney obsessed which I love! Go follow her if you don’t already.

Fabulous Hannah

fabulous-hannah

So Hannah is another of my faves and has around 200,000 followers. I really like her and she makes me giggle! She’s honest and upfront and I really respected her recently when she posted a months worth of videos with no make up on. Like the others, she posts a random mix of videos and has a varied content. She doesn’t try to be perfect (like her Christmas baking disaster video) and that is really refreshing in this day and age!

LucyAndLydia

lucy-and-lydia

So Lucy and Lydia are twins if you hadn’t guessed it, and they have 270,000 subscribers on YouTube. These 2 definitely seem like a lot of fun, and bounce off each other. Again they have similar content to the others – hauls, make-up, chatty videos etc – and watching them cheers me up as they’re so happy and bubbly. They mostly post together but occasionally post separately such as recently when they spoke about what was on their phones and how they edit their Instagram photos – Lucy Lydia

Gabriella

gabby.jpg

I’ve been subscribed to Gabby’s channel for a while now and she has just over 900,000 subscribers. The thing I like most about her is her honesty. She talks frankly about her life and her feelings and what has happened in the past. As well as the ‘usual’ videos she also posts song covers which is something I think she is eager to pursue more. Gabby has a home range in Primark which is really cute and is full of lots of lovely products at really affordable prices.

So these are just a few of my favourite YouTubers. I am subscribed to quite a few channels but I seem to go back to these ones the most. Do you have any favourite YouTubers? Let me know in the comments and I’ll be sure to check them out. And if you are on YouTube, leave your link and I’ll be sure to subscribe to your channel! (here is mine, I’ve barely posted but it is something I would love to develop in the future and think could be a lot of fun.)

Until next time…

Saal Digital Photo Book Review

So some of you may know that in March 2016 my other half and I got married. We had the most amazing day, it was totally unforgettable. One of the most important decisions we made before the wedding was choosing an incredible photographer to capture our special moments. We eventually decided on the fabulous Chris J Turner. We ended up going for a digital package as we weren’t quite sure what we wanted to do about a wedding album. However, since the wedding I’ve been desperate to get my hands on an album. Don’t get me wrong, I totally love looking at our lovely photos on the laptop, but nothing beats having something physical to look at and share with others. So when I was given the opportunity* to get a special album for the lovely people at Saal Digital, I jumped at the chance. I couldn’t wait to fill an album with our gorgeous photos.

So I went onto their website to get started. Like many similar websites in the same field, you are able to choose from a range of products including photo books, photos, wall decor, cards, art, photo posters, calendars and photo booklets. The website encourages you to download their software to create your project, but you are also able to use their direct upload function (which is what most other photo upload websites solely seem to use). Both options are free, so its just a question of personal preference. I decided to download the software.

So once I had got the software I wanted to get started. I had to select my options, so obviously started by choosing photo book. I was then able to decide on how I wanted the book to look – size, portrait/landscape, amount of pages, cover options (type, colour, padding etc) and if I wanted the photos to be matte or glossy. There were so many different options which allow you to get the book just how you want it. The next step was choosing the template/layout to use and there were a few differnt ones to choose from. These varied from weddings, babies, religious etc. Alternatively there is the option to keep it simple with a basic layout. Now I needed to choose the pictures I wanted in my photo book. This could be done by selecting all from an album on the computer, or deciding individually. Once I had done this, it was time to fill the pages! This could be done using an auto-fill function, or individually dragging and dropping. I was also able to play around with the layouts on each page to get them exactly how I wanted them. I was then able to add it to my cart and pay for it. The software made me check all of the pages just to make sure I was completely happy with it all which I think is a good idea. It also alllowed me to save and return to the book if I needed to.

So the options I decided on was – a hardcover photobook 28 x 19 cm  30 pages with a glossy un-padded cover and glossy pages. The price of this was £39.45. This seems to be quite competitive with other photo upload websites. They’re also offering £15 off at the moment, your unique discount code can be found here

So I really enjoyed making my photo book. I’m not going to lie, I had moments of stress, but that was only because I wanted to get the book just right. It was a little tricky for me as I had more than 600 photos that I wanted to squeeze into 30 pages. So for ease I wanted to select the whole album and let the software do its thing, but it just wasn’t feasible for a relatively short book. Therefore I had to select the images I wanted to use for the book beforehand and this was no way easy because I absolutely love them all! It however worked out and I was pleased once I’d selected my absolute faves. It took a few times of playing around and saving and returning to the project to get it just right. Throughout the process, I had some email communication with Saal and they were helpful and encouraged me to get in touch if I had any problems. Once I had put my order through it didn’t take too long for the book to arrive. Whilst there was some drama with the postman delivering it to another house, that was obviously not the fault of the company. As soon as I got my hands on the book, I couldn’t wait to look at it! And it really didn’t disappoint. I was so happy with the quality of the photos and the glossy pages made them look so good! It is definitely something I will treasure. Here are a few snaps from the finished product …

I would definitely use this company again in the future, whether it is for another photo book or a different product.

Until next time…

Jean xoxo

[*I was very kindly sent a hefty discount code to use to get the photobook for a small amount in return for a review. However, all opinions are my own.]
